Yuri Bongalos is a highly experienced teacher and an educational technology specialist. Currently, he is a secondary teacher, based in Melbourne, Australia. Aside from teaching students, Yuri is also engaged in various projects for staff professional development. Previously, Yuri was an educational technologist at Sarjana Education Group in Brunei and established the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative in 2018 for Seri Mulia Sarjana School and Seri Mulia Sarjana International School. Yuri developed capacity for teachers in delivering technology-enhanced lessons and assessments using the range of education tools provided by Microsoft. He was also appointed to work with SEG’s international school for their accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS). Yuri was also an educational technology coordinator at the University of Santo Tomas, as a representative of the university’s College of Accountancy staff.
With a clear passion for ICT integration in education, Yuri completed a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree with major in Computer Technology from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines and a Master of Arts in Education degree major in Information Technology Integration from the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, Philippines. Throughout his career in education, Yuri has held notable positions in the schools he has served in the past. He was Ateneo de Manila High School’s youngest department chair and spearheaded the revamp of the school’s ICT curriculum. When he moved to Brunei in 2015, he worked on a project with the country’s Ministry of Education project on Interactive Technologies as an Education and Training Consultant in charge of designing, developing, delivering and evaluating training programs for primary and secondary government school teachers nationwide.
